The stakes were already high even before the IPL auction took place a couple of days back. But now that it is done and dusted with all it is worthwhile to take a look at all the sorting and trading, who is where and how much did it cost to avail their services.
Brendon McCullum, who set the IPL rolling with a blistering 158* against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first ever IPL match is back to where he started his IPL career, The Kolkata Knight Riders. The Shahrukh Khan owned franchise payed $900,000 for the Kiwi wicketkeeper batsman hoping to find him at his devastating best. The biggest buy of this year's IPL was Ravindra Jadeja. Both Chennai Super Kings and The Deccan Chargers bid the upper extreme amount of 2 million USD, but in the tie breaker, the Deccan Chargers were outbid by the Chennai Super Kings and Jadeja was bought for an undisclosed sum of money. The defending champions are really keen on defending their title it seems.
R.Vinay Kumar was sold to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for USD 1 million. The Bangalore camp hope that the pacer will make an impact and will justify the large amount spent on him. West Indian Sunil Narine went to the Kolkata Knight Riders for $700,000 and was an expensive buy considering the fact that his basic price was just $50,000. Pakistan have made their re entry to the IPL as all rounder Azhar Mahmood was bought by the team at Kings XI Punjab. One can strongly hope that this move strengthens bonds between both the countries. But the most extravagant trade of the auction was perhaps the move of Dinesh Karthik to the Mumbai Indians squad for an undisclosed amount to boost the batting and wicket keeping of a side that boasts of the likes of Sachin Tendulkar on their side.
